It’s a landscape photography workshop with plenty of time in the field, comfortable accommodation and a relaxed pace, giving us the flexibility to focus on photography while still enjoying the experience along the way.
PATAGONIA PHOTO TOUR
ITINERARY
Day 1 – Arrival & Perito Moreno
Arrive in El Calafate and get settled. After a short introduction to meet everyone, we’ll head out to the incredible Perito Moreno Glacier. We’ll be right in front of it and might see some ice breaking off, accompanied by its deep, echoing sound. It’s honestly breathtaking. It’s the perfect moment to capture wide shots or even panoramas, and to zoom in on the details of the ice as light passes through, revealing that incredible deep blue. This is exactly how we’ll kick off our adventure in Patagonia.
After visiting the glacier, we’ll head directly to El Chaltén. If the weather is clear and the mountains are visible, we’ll stop along the way to photograph the sunset before continuing to El Chaltén, where we’ll check into our hotel for the night.
Day 2 – Lago del Desierto
We’ll head out before sunrise to a nearby viewpoint, just a 15-minute drive away. This session is optional, so you can also stay cozy in bed if you feel like catching some extra rest.
After one of our favorite breakfasts and some free time to relax, we’ll head to Lago del Desierto for a short boat trip, the perfect chance to capture Fitz Roy from unique angles across the water.
Back on land, we’ll wrap up the day at another spectacular spot to watch the sun drop behind the mountains, painting the landscape with warm evening light.
Day 3 – The Hidden Gem
We’ll leave very early in the morning for our sunrise session. The early start is well worth it, giving us the chance to be out in the landscape as the first light reaches the mountains.
After the sunrise session, we’ll return to El Chaltén for breakfast and some time to relax and recharge. The rest of the day will be more relaxed, giving us some flexibility before heading out again in the afternoon.
For sunset, we’ll head out along the road and look for the best conditions to photograph the mountains as the light fades.
If the skies are clear and there are no clouds covering the mountains, we’ll stay out after dark for some night photography under the Patagonian sky.
Day 4 – Roads & Guanacos
We’ll start the day before sunrise and head out for some road photography, taking advantage of the early light and the changing atmosphere around the mountains.
After breakfast, you’ll have some free time to relax, explore El Chaltén or simply enjoy a slower part of the day before our next photography session.
In the afternoon, we’ll head out in search of guanacos. Wildlife is never guaranteed, but this is a great opportunity to photograph these iconic Patagonian animals while also making the most of the surrounding landscape.
We’ll stay out through sunset, giving us the chance to photograph the mountains and the guanacos in the softer evening light.
Day 5 – The Canyon and The Wall
We’ll head out before sunrise to photograph a beautiful canyon landscape from a different perspective. The early light can completely change the atmosphere of these rocky surroundings, making this another great opportunity to work with shapes, textures and the first light of the day.
After breakfast and some time to relax, we’ll have a more flexible part of the day before heading out again in the afternoon.
For sunset, we’ll have the option to hike up to Paredón, a steep trail that takes less than an hour. The hike is completely optional, and those who prefer a more relaxed evening will have an alternative plan.
From the top, we’ll have a different perspective of the surrounding mountains and another opportunity to photograph the landscape in the evening light.
Day 6 – Estancia Bonanza
After our sunrise photography session, we’ll return for breakfast and have some time to relax. After lunch, we’ll head to Estancia Bonanza, a beautiful rural ranch nestled in a valley surrounded by lenga and ñire forests.
Once we arrive, you’ll have the chance to enjoy one of the activities available at the estancia, whether it’s horseback riding through the trails, trying the Via Ferrata, or simply exploring the surroundings at your own pace.
As the light softens behind the mountains, we’ll gather again for sunset photography around the estancia. We’ll then enjoy a traditional Patagonian lamb dinner, with vegetarian and vegan options also available.
We’ll spend the night in charming cabins with mountain views. If the skies are clear, we’ll head out again after dinner to look for some night photography under the stars.
Optional Experience: Overnight in the Ovo Patagonia Capsules
For those looking for a truly unique adventure, there is the option to spend a night in the suspended Ovo Patagonia capsules at Estancia Bonanza. These pods hang on the mountainside, offering a completely different perspective of the valley and Fitz Roy.
To reach them, you’ll hike for about 45 minutes through native forest, followed by an easy Via Ferrata guided by a mountain guide. Once inside, everything is taken care of: dinner, breakfast, and constant support via radio from the guide. This experience is limited to one person per night.
The next morning, after breakfast, you’ll descend and rejoin the group to continue the adventure. The cost for this exclusive overnight stay is €1,800.
Day 7 – Morning at the Estancia & Farewell Dinner
We’ll start the morning with a sunrise photography session at the estancia, with incredible views towards Fitz Roy, also known as Cerro Chaltén.
After breakfast, you’ll have some free time to enjoy the surroundings or take part in an optional activity before we gather for a traditional Argentine asado for lunch.
In the afternoon, we’ll have some time to relax before heading out for one last photography session around the estancia. We’ll make the most of the evening light before saying goodbye and returning to El Chaltén.
We’ll finish the workshop with a farewell dinner in town, the perfect chance to look back at the places we’ve visited, the photographs we’ve created and the experiences we’ve shared along the way.
